I grew up building models (still do) and some of my favorites were from Revell called Deal's Wheels which were really wild race cars based on some dude named Dave Deal who in the 60s and 70s did some very far-out drawings of cars. Google Deal's Wheels for some images.
Anyway, today I'm a HUGE NASCAR fan and have followed the CAT 22 team for 10 years now (have personally met 3 of the 4 drivers... cool) and decided to do this drawing based on Dave Deal's style but adding my own flair to it.
I'm not an illustrator, and I think it shows, but if you look at it as a cartoon (which is what I do) then it's not half bad.
This is also a throw back when NASCAR actually raced STOCK cars and not these things today. I love the sport, but man, those days of driving 69 Chargers with 440 engines were just too cool.
**Update: I replaced the logo on the hood as mine sucked. Forgot I do work for CAT so I had their freakin' logo on my machine! So, the logo has been replaced by the real CAT logo, not my crappy hand-drawn one.
Well, I am not really the fan of the idea of driving 40 laps in the same direction(correct me if I'm wrong), But I really like this one, being a car lover and all.
Well, yes, they do go in the same direction (go fast, turn left, go fast, turn left, go fast... hold on... turn left) and it's more like 200 laps! The excitement is in the strategy... fuel mileage, pit stop timings, two tires vs. four tires, drafting, etc. Going in circles is not that exciting, agreed. I attended my first NACAR race a few years ago and the SOUND was addicting. Just the HUGE in your face, crush your chest VVRROOOOOM as the cars go by. Nice. What'd you say? Yes, it is LOUD.
That's the beauty of NASCAR, 43 teams to root for! I seem to be drawn to underdog teams and also did a TON of work for Caterpillar back it the 80s and 90s, so I have a fond spot in my heart for that team as well. I'm keeping my eye on Jr. this year, I think he could be the winner that he's proven himself to be.
NIIIICE car. Isee your a nascar fan like myself, interested in joining a club? (link in signature) I'm one of the three people in charge *smiles and gloats at same time*
