The final frame of this strip was inspired by my favorite animator of all time... Chuck Jones. Go to YouTube and search for "Super Rabbit" and you'll find a Bugs Bunny cartoon directed by Jones. In that short, Bugs is about to change into Super Rabbit (ala Superman in the phonebooth) and pops out dressed as little Bo Peep. Yes, Bugs in drag, very funny. BUT... what's really funny is that Bugs is pulling along with him a toy sheep. Jones tossed in these fantastic little details that are the real joke.
The original final panel of this comic had Jeff holding the Bo Peep outfits up for Bud to look at (they were going to try and talk the ladies into wearing them). But as I drew it, I remembered that old Bugs cartoon and knew that I had to put that in.
I laugh my ass off on this one everytime I look at it... its just plain old slapstick humor where the unexpected hits you and makes you laugh.
As Milton Berle (who?) once said... "A man dressed as a woman can't be half bad." Exactly.
He does look awfully nice in that outfit, you have to admit

"I'm the type who'd be happy not going anywhere as long as I was sure I knew exactly what was happening at the places I wasn't going to. I'm the type who'd like to sit home and watch every party that I'm invited to on a monitor in my bedroom."~Andy Warhol
You know whats funny? The old detailed background really makes this one. I miss those. ALOT. The two frames following don't do the setting justice. I think if you took the extra time to incorporate a background half as good as the first one it would really help out.

Minimum safety distances between street musicians and the public: Violinist: 25 feet Bad violinist: 50 feet Tone deaf guitarist who knows 3 chords: 75 feet 15 yearold electric guitarist with Nirvana fixation: 200 feet Accordionist: 60 miles.
The key word was "extra time"... I barely get these done as it is with my "full-time" job and family stuff. When I did them once a week, I had time to create backgrounds, its just not possible today. Most comics have simple, or no backgrounds at all. Girls With Slingshots often does not have backgrounds. But in my case, when they're rehersing or playing, I have to do backgrounds... and then I have to draw those damn guitars! Ugh, why'd I pick a rock band to draw? Crap, all those tiny strings drive me crazy!
My "slogan" in that time period was "I'll do anything once..." Today it's "I'll do anything not-to-dangerous once..." subtle but practical difference. I've dressed in women's clothes before for skits and stuff, or Halloween. I've got great legs...
Devious Comments
